Technical Details

The HP Multi Jet Fusion printer works in a similar fashion to Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) powder bed based printers, but rather than using a laser to melt layers of powder, it uses HP’s ink jet technology to spray fusing and detailing agents that act as catalysts to transfer and control heat from infrared heat lamps that fuse the powder.

With the MJF printer, Avid is able to make strong end-use parts and functional prototypes with outstanding resolution, surface finish and edge definition. This new technology allows for much faster printing, making full scale, production level manufacturing possible without expensive tooling.

  • Build Volume: 15 x 11.2 x 15 in (380 x 284 x 380 mm)
  • +/-.012 inches (.3mm) for the first 4 inches of the part, +/- .003 inches (.08mm) after that
  • .003 inch (.08mm) layer thickness
  • Minimum Wall Thickness: 0.020 in (0.375 mm)

  • Excellent mechanical properties with nearly uniform strength in all directions
  • Consistent surface finish with imperceptible layer lines
  • Living hinges and snap fits
  • Bulk pricing at higher volumes
  • Dimensionally stable up to 300F+
