I’m Ryann Billson on legal documents but you know me as Ryan Billson.
Yes, there are really two n’s in my first name. I am a child of the 70’s, my parents will need to explain.
My degree is in Engineering with an emphasis in Mechanical from Colorado School of Mines. I started my career in a small five-person company where I was designing, manufacturing, and using instruments that measure gravity. Yes, it’s a thing.
I played many roles, learned a bunch about gravity and saw the world. Want to know the best place to get coffee in February on the North Slope in Alaska, ask me. One of my main roles was as the Chief Operating Officer leading Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations as well as reporting and interfacing with key investors. I am excited to apply that experience at Avid.
What’s your secret ambition?
To own a bar, bartend there, but not talk to any of my clients (I am an engineer).
If you were a brand, what would be your motto?
“There should be a good reason behind all design work.”
What’s your favorite 90s jam?
One by U2.
What do you love about working at Avid?
Our diverse client base offers various opportunities to grow and learn, and get back to hands-on engineering. It was awesome to develop a vision and mission for Avid, and achieve so many significant milestones and accomplishments.
We have a great team and strive to continuously provide long-term growth and sustainability for our customers and the business. I am excited to see where we will take the company as we move forward.
What’s the best engineer (or inventor) joke you’ve heard?
What do you get when you cross a mosquito with a spider?
Nothing. You can’t cross a vector with a scalar.
