Avid Product Development Eliminates Manual Surface Finishing for MJF 3D Printing
Surface Finishing Revolutionized with PostProcess® RADOR™ Solution
Buffalo, NY, March 10, 2022 — Avid Product Development, a Lubrizol Company, has selected a PostProcess Technologies RADOR automated surface finishing solution to enhance their Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) manufacturing services. Avid partners with customers and offers solutions customized to their unique product design, prototyping, and additive manufacturing needs.
Prior to PostProcess’ RADOR investment, Avid relied on hand sanding each MJF part, an approach that did not fully leverage the production scale of multiple MJF printers. As more of Avid’s customers desired enhanced surface finishing, a more efficient solution was necessary to speed up finishing time and reduce the manual labor involved in post-processing.
Designed with Additive Manufacturing in mind, the RADOR employs a patented Suspended Rotational Force to meet the desired Roughness Average (Ra) on a wide range of 3D print materials. The RADOR offers superior surface finishing with evenly treated parts and reduced cycle times with minimal operator intervention. Intelligent cycle times and variable detergent dosing finish parts with minimal breakage while preserving fine feature details.
According to Drew Baggen, Sales and Marketing Manager at Avid Product Development, “High end finishes were a bottleneck in Avid’s production line. RADOR helps us increase manufacturing efficiency, streamline our finishing operations, and meet the growing demand for production 3D printing.”
Nick Xenakis, North American Central Territory Manager at PostProcess Technologies said, “The team at Avid was excited to get the RADOR up and running. Eliminating hand sanding from their MJF workflow offered consistency for their end customers as much as it freed up labor. Pleased we were able to help Avid in their commitment to offer competitive and differentiated additive manufacturing services.”
