The following are design guidelines for our additive manufacturing technologies. We will work with you to ensure our 3D printing capabilities align with your requirements. Please submit any drawings, specific tolerances, or special requests in writing at time of quotation. Parts that are produced through any of our additive manufacturing processes are inspected for quality assurance.
MULTI JET FUSION (MJF)

Build volume: 380 x 284 x 380 mm [15 x 11.2 x 15 in].

Specifications for nylon (PA 11 and PA 12) materials:

  • Dimensional accuracy: +/- 0.3 up to 100 mm and +/- 0.08 mm for each additional mm [+/- 0.012 up to 3.937 inches and +/- 0.003 for each additional inch].
  • Minimum wall thickness on the XY planes: 0.3 mm [0.012 in].
  • Minimum wall thickness on Z plane: 0.5 mm [0.019 in].
  • Minimum hole diameter: 0.5 mm [0.019 in].
  • Minimum shaft diameter: 0.5 mm [0.019 in].
  • Minimum clearance between features: 0.5 mm [0.019 in].
  • Minimum slit between walls: 0.5 mm [0.019 in].
  • Minimum depth or height for characters or drawings: 0.7 mm [0.027 in].
  • Minimum gap in lattice structures: 1 mm [0.039 in].
  • Minimum gap for mating parts: 0.6 mm [0.024 in] +/-  0.3 mm [0.012 in] between the interface areas that fit together.
  • Minimum clearance on assembly parts that are printed together: 0.5 mm [0.019 in] between parts.
  • Part geometry, wall thickness, and build orientation can affect tolerances.

Specifications for elastometric (TPU) materials:

  • Dimensional accuracy: +/- 1 mm up to 100 mm  [+/- 0.039 in up to 3.937 in].*
  • Minimum thickness for vertical and horizontal walls: down to 0.3 mm [0.012 in]; 0.5 mm [0.019 in] recommended.
  • Minimum wall thickness for hollow spheres: down to 0.5 mm [0.019 in].
  • Minimum beam thickness for lattice structures: 0.5 mm [0.019 in] possible; 1 mm [0.039 in] recommended.
  • Large, thin horizontal surfaces should be avoided as they will be porous and weak.
  • Part geometry, wall thickness, and build orientation can affect tolerances.

ORIGIN PROGRAMMABLE PHOTOPOLYMERIZATION (P3)

Build volume: 192 x 108 x 350 mm (7.5 x 4.2 x 13.7 in).

  • Dimensional accuracy: as low as 0.05 mm [0.002 in] on XY planes; Z resolution is user configurable.
  • Recommended wall thickness: 0.5 mm [0.019 in].
  • Minimum wall thickness: 0.25 mm [0.009 in].
  • Minimum hole diameter: 0.2 mm [0.008 in].
  • Feature size: dependent on material and aspect ratio; typically 0.4 mm [0.017 in] for negative features and up to 0.2 mm [0.008 in] for positive features.
  • Overhangs: 1-2 mm [0.039-0.078 in] is safe; 2-3 mm [0.078-0.118 in] is possible with supports.
  • Best to design parts with overhangs greater than 20º.
  • Minimum drainage hole diameter: 3 mm [0.118 in].
  • Cylinders: height up to 8 mm [0.315 in] and as thin as 0.5 mm [0.019 in].
  • Bridges: up to a span of 10 mm [0.394 in].
  • Part geometry, wall thickness, and build orientation can affect tolerances.
FUSED DEPOSITION MODELING (FDM)

Build volume: 203 x 203 x 305 mm [8 x 8 x 12 in].

  • Dimensional accuracy:  0.178 mm [0.007 in] layer thickness.
  • Minimum wall thickness: 0.75 mm [0.030 in].
  • Large parts can be printed with a honeycomb or hexagonal infill in Sparse Mode without impacting part strength.
  • Complex designs may require soluble support material.
  • Part geometry, wall thickness, and build orientation can affect tolerances.
STEREOLITHOGRAPHY (SLA)

Build volume: 145 x 145 x 175 mm [5.7 x 5.7 x 6.9 in].

  • Dimensional accuracy: as low as 0.025 mm [0.001 in] layer thickness.
  • Beam diameter standard resolution: 0.25 mm [0.001 in].
  • Beam diameter high resolution: 0.075 mm [0.003 in].
  • Minimum supported wall thickness: 0.4 mm [0.016 in].
  • Minimum unsupported wall thickness: 0.6 mm [0.024 in].
  • Maximum unsupported overhang length: 1 mm [0.39 in].
  • Minimum unsupported overhang angle: 19° from level; 35 mm long x 10 mm wide x 3 mm thick [1.378 inches long x 0.394 inches wide x 0.118 inches thick].
  • Maximum horizontal support span/bridge: 21 mm [0.827 in]; 5 mm wide x 3 mm thick [0.197 inches wide x 0.118 inches thick].
  • Minimum vertical-wire diameter: 0.3 mm (7 mm tall) to 1.5 mm (30 mm tall) [0.012 in (0.28 in tall) to 0.059 in (1.181 in tall).
  • Minimum embossed detail: 0.1 mm [0.004 in].
  • Minimum engraved detail: 0.4 mm [0.016 in].
  • Minimum clearance between two moving parts: 0.5 mm [0.020 in].
  • Minimum hole diameter: 0.5 mm [0.020 in].
  • Minimum drain hole diameter: 3.5 mm [0.138 in].

SELECTIVE LASER SINTERING (SLS)
